[resolved] Accidentally Created an Infinite Redirect Loop by Editing General Settings (3 posts)

    Hello!

I searched the forums and haven't been able to find a solution to the problem that I created, although it's possible that I am using the wrong terminology to search because I am brand new to WordPress.

As an ignorant new WordPress administrator, I made the mistake of going into the General Settings and changing the WordPress Address (URL) & Site Address (URL) of my site from http://yellowleafhammocks.com to http://www.yellowleafhammocks.com and immediately brought disaster upon my site. It is caught in an infinite redirect loop and I can not figure out how to resolve it.

When I try to go to the homepage, I get this message:

Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects.

I went into WP Engine and set the site back to an earlier "Restore Point"-- I felt sure that would fix the problem by overriding my changes, but I still can't access the site through Chrome or Explorer. I am able to access the homepage in Firefox, which I think might be a cached version?

I hope that I explained the problem clearly and I would be really, really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction to resolve this. Thanks so much!

@rlconnors - I see that your site is working now. Did you ever find out what was happening with the Redirect Loop issue? I am on WPEngine too and trying to add a landing page to my site. On my Dev machine it works fine, but on staging I get the redirect error. When I CURLed the URL it tried to redirect 50 times and then timed out. I wasn't able to determine the problem from the CURL output.

Get same error on Chrome or Safari after clearing history, cookies, etc.

    Thanks!

I did get it fixed, but not by learning how to resolve it :( An acquaintance figured out how to restore to an earlier back-up point and I didn't mess with it anymore!!

    Best of luck!!
