[resolved] [closed] Accessing wp-admin: "This webpage has a redirect loop" (6 posts)

Hello, just wondering if anyone can help me out.

I have recently moved my site to a host server, after developing it locally on my computer.

Everything appears to be intact - when I go the URL, everything works fine.

But when I try to go to wp-admin i get the message, "This webpage has a redirect loop".

After much Googling, I can see that this is a pretty common problem, but since I am a total n00b I am having trouble finding a solution that works.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi Yebby,

    1. Clear all browser cookies.
    2. Change the secret keys for the system. This will invalidate everybody's cookies, so they'll have to log in again. Description of how to do it here:

    Also kindly check your .htaccess.

    Thanks for these suggestions.

I have tried clearing the cookies, but unfortunately still get the "redirect loop" message.

I have noticed that the .htaccess file is mentioned a lot in troubleshooting this problem. I have tried finding this file but I don't seem to have one (yep, I have turned on 'show hidden files'). Could that be part of the problem?

Same problem here - did you ever solve it? Removing all templates and plugins didn't solve anything. Nor did making sure all files were the default, such as the .htaccess. Permissions were set correctly too. Very strange and I am guessing something in the database could be problematic.

I did get this fixed, but I had to ask a web developer who works on our other site for help, as it was beyond my expertise. He didn't tell me what he did unfortunately. I'm guessing something probably went wrong when I was renaming the URL in my database.

Sorry I couldn't be more help! You could try contacting your host support and maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Recently we tried to solve one client's website and in there he had added redirection plugin and then later deactivated and removed the plugin but the redirection was still active inside the database.
