• I am new to WordPress and am experimenting on LOCALHOST on two machines, a desktop, running Windows7 and laptop running XP. Both machines have Opera and Firefox browsers installed.
When I create a new site, I get right through the installation with no problems but as soon as I try accessing it through localhost, it takes more and more attempts and the message “Could not connect to remote server” before a link is established and, in the end, I just cannot access the site at all. The same thing happens on both machines and with both browsers.
    Any ideas?

  • does this happen from both machines? just a reminder, you cant access localhost from a remote machine. its a HOSTS that directs to 127.0.0.1 so if you try accessing the localhost from your remote machine it will attempt to connect to the remote machines localhost and not your actual install.

Both machines are running completely separately with different sites but the same thing is happening in both instances.
