Accessing global variables

Hi,
Is there any alternate way to access global variables in wordpress other then including wp-load.php.
Iam trying to integrate wordpress inside my custom application. There iam trying to access global variable declared inside my plugin into the custom application. If i include wp-load.php i can access the variable but then some functions clashes with my existing functions in the application.
