    Hello Friends,

I have been given the following address by a server (this is for a new client) of: http://69.90.47.9/~socialjm/

What this address is supposed to do is allow me to select • wordpress and view the build of a new WordPress website. I am building the site with a Child of Twentyten.

The problem is that when I call this address up in the browser all I can see is a text version of the WordPress.
In fact, I cannot even access the Admin to login to the Dashboard and begin building the site.

The server Tech support have told me that I need to: and these are their exact words.., “change the host file”. This is all the help they are willing to give me. Although they did also give me the address for the cPanel. I installed a fresh copy of WordPress onto the server yesterday.

Again the problem is, when I view this address http://69.90.47.9/~socialjm/ all I can see is the Index of /~socialjm I cannot even access the Admin to login to the Dashboard and begin building the site.

If anyone has any information or can offer some help to guide me on this I would be extremely grateful to hear from you.

Many thank s in advance for your help and for your time.

    David

    Hi Esmi,

I used cPanel and placed the WordPress into the following folder:

Here is a snap shot of the cPanel with the WordPress folder and path... http://i-brand.ca/temp/wordpress_path.jpg

That's not what I asked. What url did you use when you installed WordPress?

Sorry, I used the following: https://ns7.servepower.com:2083/

This brings me to the cPanel.
I then selected Software from cPanel and I have provided the next screen with the URL. http://i-brand.ca/temp/wordpress_path_2.jpg

That is not the same url as the one suggested by your hosts. Did you move this site after you installed it? Or change the urls in Settings -> General?

No I never touched it. Are you thinking that I simply need to move the copy of WP to a different folder Esmi?

I have been given two addresses.

    They are:
    https://ns7.servepower.com:2083/ To access cPanel.
    AND
http://69.90.47.9/~socialjm/ - To view the website.

I used cPanel yesterday to place a copy in the root folder, Folder marked /www

This folder contains /cgi-bin and wordpress and a file called .htaccess

My apologies but this is all I know.
I am assuming that since I placed my copy of WordPress into the root folder, and I can see it while in FTP. The URL address you are asking me about must be http://69.90.47.9/~socialjm/

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing more I can offer Esmi. I know you are trying to help me and I truly appreciate your time and help. Maybe this is one that we cannot figure out.

You see the server in this case claim that this issue is a WP one. Until the nameservers are pointed over to the new host, we have to use an IP numerical address to build the WP site. However by doing this, I cannot log in to build.

I must say I am beginning to lose it here.

What urls are entered in Settings -> General?

Esmi, that is part of the problem.
I cannot open the Admin login screen to get to the Dashboard.

The closest I can get to it is: http://69.90.47.9/~socialjm/

I wonder if there is a way I can access the Settings -> General from the FTP interface.
I do have access to that.

Try changing the site urls to http://69.90.47.9/~socialjm. See Changing_The_Site_URL.
