Accepting Spam Links for Money (2 posts)

    Howdy folks.

We get a lot of requests for placing text links into our posts to spammy sites like "cheap car insurance!" and crap like that. lately they've been offering good money and often want the links to be inside our articles which, frankly, makes me cringe for my editorial integrity. So I've been turning those down, but sometimes take a few at the very bottom of articles. Looks terrible, but we need the revenue.

    What's your opinion?

Terrible idea? Will this destroy my credibility and/or SEO? Where do you draw the line with regards to how spammy you'll allow these things to be?

I think it partly depends on your audience -- some probably don't care if your site looks tacky and full of garbage ads. Others won't stay on the page at all with that kind of stuff.

I'd personally say that maintaining decent quality and standards is probably worth it in the long run. Even if you make a few bucks, if you lose visitors, kind of counter-productive. You certainly do run the risk of wrecking your SEO with spammy links, etc.
