I am trying to upgrade to 3.5 WordPress, but my theme options are no longer responsive. I don't want to upgrade without doing both WordPress and theme backups.

There is another person besides myself who works on this site. I am wondering if she messed with something she shouldn't have. We use the same username password combination. I know the dates I have been on the site, is there a place somewhere that I can check if that username and password has been logged in and when ?

    Not within WordPress core, no.

Not even by looing at the database?

I have since installed a plugin called Simple History which documents all activity on the site.

Still scared to death to upgrade WP without the ability to do a theme backup.

You can backup your theme by simply downloading its folder inside wp-content/themes to your computer using FTP or use whatever file management application your host provides. However, providing you haven't been customising the Twenty Eleven or Twenty Twelve themes, your theme won't be touched by a WordPress core upgrade. Just remember to backup your database first. That's the really critical bit.

Right. That is good to know. I did back up with Tools/Export. so I should be good to go, right? (she said hopefully)

Yes - in that you have a copy of your text-based content. But an actual database backup would be a lot better as it would also contain details about all of your attachments/uploads.
