Support » Plugins » A Revolution in Widget Management

  • Alright Guys, I’ve been trucking away on this plugin for the last month. I have installed in on three of my websites and I believe that I’ve got all of the kinks worked out of the code.

    http://www.jonathonbyrd.com/?twc

The plugin is called Total Widget Control. It provides developers with an additional code set to build custom widgets faster. It also provides developers with template tags to expand their control over theming.

For theme developers, the plugin allows them to create widget skins, allowing their theme admins to change the look and feel of a single widget on every page, category, taxonomy or other queriable object in wordpress.

For administrators, the plugin changes the way that widgets are managed. Allowing administrators to place a widget into a sidebar and then specify exactly what pages or other queriable objects that the widget should display on.

Have a look at the video above and let me know if you have any ideas for us.

In the next version, we have planned to add ACL and capability management to the widgets as well. Making it possible to display widgets to specific users or user groups. Other options include paginating the widget list, as well as filtering a search.

  • I’ve installed this on a test site, but I’m stuck at “Your registration process is in progress” been sitting there for about 10 minutes. Any ideas?
The only error log I could find was the one in my WordPress main directory which didn’t have anything in it.

Hey Zeaks, we just launched the beta today, I’m sorry that you’re having problems with that piece. I’ve tested that on all of my websites and all of my computers, and it worked for me.

Is there any way that I can get access to your system to figure out why it’s conflicting with your stack? Thanks.

Actually, I just found a bug on my end. A last minute change from last night of course. Why dont you try the registration process again.

It works now, reactivated and the registration finished in seconds. Thanks

Glad to hear. Thanks for letting me know Zeaks.

I also cannot get past the registration page. The process of registration, however, does not get hung up, it just doesn’t start. I’ve tried un/reinstalling it w/ no luck.

I just posted version 1.5 that will fix the registration problems.

It still doesn’t work after upgrading, but I actually don’t need all the features of your plugin, so I’m just going with something else. Thxs though.

Hi, I got past the registration page by CHMODing the /wp-content/plugins/total-widget-control/ folder to: 777

But now I’m faced with a bigger problem…

After disabling (and later: deleting) the plugin, my widgets admin page didn’t restore to its trusted old self again. Instead, it now looks like it’s in limbo somewhere between the default widgets page, and the TWC widgets page.

    Screenshot: http://img717.imageshack.us/i/clipboard01ms.jpg/

All the widget areas at the frontend (pages) of my website did restore perfectly fine.

Please help, I can’t drag & drop and manage my widgets anymore. It also still shows 8 widget areas I didn’t have before.

    What I’ve already done:

    – Cleared my webbrowser cache (yeah, I know) 😉
    – Logout / login again
    – Temporarily replaced the wp-admin folder (incl. contents) with a backup copy
    – Looked around for files with today’s modified date. I haven’t found any (yet)

Actually, the screenshot that you sent me is of the wordpress widget area, no limbo. The accessibility feature has been activated for compatibility with TWC. To deactivate the accessibility mode, click on SCREEN OPTIONS tab and you will see the option.

    Thanks man, that solved it.
Shame on me; I didn’t even know that option was there 😉

First off: I’m not too happy that you scraped my email from my wordpress install and automatically signed me up on your forums.

Secondly: I’ve disabled your plugin and now my widgets no longer drag and drop like they’re supposed to. Instead, I’ve got “Add” buttons on all the widgets. Furthermore, all my widget settings have been wiped. Your plugin is the only one I’ve installed that affected the widgets, so please tell me what on earth I need to do to get my WordPress install back to its previous state.

Thirdly: Please indicate on your plugin’s profile which of the features require payment. I would never have installed it if I’d known that it didn’t offer what I wanted.

Well I just noticed your post about accessibility mode… no way you can turn that back off when you uninstall the plugin?
