A random post redirecting to another post (without settings to do so) (3 posts)

    http://crime-stoppers.us/ is the site
    http://crime-stoppers.us/2013/05/14/chasity-metcalf/ is the original post
http://crime-stoppers.us/2013/05/14/breaking-and-entering-at-supreme-nut-and-candy-store-2/ is the post that the above post is being directed to

There are no apparent settings in the Metcalf post that would cause it to be redirected to the Nut/Candy post. They have different post ID's. Redirection is installed, but the Metcalf post isn't one of the redirections.

It's a site maintained by a client - so as far as the workflow that might have caused it, I only have to go on what they've told me (which is nothing much except that it was a public post, then they changed it to private).

    Any thoughts?

When using the non-permalink url for each of these:

    http://crime-stoppers.us/?p=5203
    and
    http://crime-stoppers.us/?p=5197

We get to the right posts.

Also note the -2 in the slug on the Nut/Candy post...
This happens when a post is trashed and not deleted and a post with the same slug is created (slugs must be unique) or two posts with same slug exist at same time.

My thought is that a redirect was setup for the trashed post, prior to it being trashed, and this is 'confusing' your redirection plugin

I saw the -2 earlier and permanently deleted the original post (noting that probably the client has done just what you said as far as creating duplicate posts).

Also, this client doesn't have access to the redirect plugin, so that's not a choice.
