A quicker opt-in front page

I recently went through a real headache with Semiologic’s Opt-In Front Page plugin… essentially you create a category for things you want posted to the front page, and so it goes. Unfortunatly the plugin broke my feed, and I could not find a way to fix it. Luckily all I needed to do was add this near the top of index.php:

query_posts(“cat=1”);

That’s it. A whole plugin, and I was able to replicate everything I wanted it to do with that one simple statement. Argh. It sure beats having a busted feed (where I didn’t care about opt-in stuff)…
