I'm new at this.
Can't get rid of the "Meta" stuff on the index page of the theme I like . . . Also, the links don't show up. I switch to a different theme and the links do show up but still, the meta crap is there and I can't get rid of it. Can't even find it anywhere in the admin pages.

You need to edit the sidebar.php file for both of your issues.
