    Hi!

I am new to WP and have been progressing pretty nicely in the past week but I am stuck now. I am working in Twenty Eleven Child theme. I need to tweak the functions.php but when I add the file through the FTP client (FileZilla), the entire site breaks. Google error reads site is offline! How can I fix this? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Is your child’s functions.php file empty?

Well the only way I know how to create a new file in FileZilla is to copy an old one & rename. In this case I copied the content.php, renamed, and deleted its contents but them the site went offline immediately after that. I’ve tried copying the entire functions.php over to child theme but that also breaks the site.

No. You must create a new text file in a plain text editor with just <?php at the top, save it as functions.php and upload it to your child theme.

Ok! Will try that now. Thank you!
