Write panel takes a minute to load
-
Hi all,
I’m having a problem with the write panel. It literally takes a minute or so to load. I’m using WP2.0.4. I’ve tried disabling all plugins, with no success, as well as optimizing the database. The write panel is the only page that does this. When the page is loading, it slows down the whole system, and by that I don’t mean the server, I mean the client. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d appreciate them. Thank you.

Perhaps it’s the post preview causing the slow down? See if this plugin helps any:
I tried the plugin, and it didn’t fix the problem. I posted this earlier, I wonder why it didn’t take. If you need me to, I can create an account for you on the site so you can see it in action. What seems to be happening is that the page loads, but then the computer itself hangs, and I can’t determine if it has anything to do with the screen reader I’m using, or if it would do the same thing for a sighted user as well. When I look at the number of queries, it says “2.0.4 — 0.53 seconds”.
“If you need me to, I can create an account for you on the site so you can see it in action.“
Best to leave something like that as a last option.
In any case, the query results seem about average. Are you running any other plugins that work in some way off the post editor pages?
I’m not using any plugins that affect the operation of the write panel, just things that affect information like autohyperlinking URLs, date output. I’ve also disabled all plugins to see if that would fix the problem, and it had no effect. The page still hangs in the middle of loading.
Then the next thing to look at is, there is a *lot* of javascript in the post editor that needs to load up, and it is always possible something hangs here for a while in your browser.
If you can, temporarily disable javascript in your browser, then force a hard refresh of the post editor page (or just shut down and restart your web browser).
Hi Kafkaesqui,
I disabled Javascript, and it didn’t fix the problem. I have another blog using WP whose write panel loads just fine. Same version and everything. The only difference is that it has fewer posts. I don’t know much about MYSQL databases, but could there be a table corrupted in the database that would be causing the problem?Quick Question: Are you using the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin on this blog? If so, what version?
No, i’m not using the ultimate tag warrior plugin. Is there a way I can output a list of what plugins I am using? Maybe that would help.
Sure wouldn’t hurt. You could just list ’em here (the active ones) or you could use something like this on your blog: http://www.viper007bond.com/wordpress-plugins/vipers-plugins-used/
… and post a link to the results here.

I’ve tried deactivating all plugins, (specifically, deleting them all in one go so that they would be deactivated), and then clicking on the write link, and the problem still occurs. I also cleared the cash for the browser. Hope that helps.I’ve managed to fix the loading problem. I had to remove the current installation of WP, and install 2.0.5. I’m trying to restore the database using phpmyadmin, but the file is too large. 84MB to be exact. Is there another way to restore the file? Thanks.
Got the DB restored. The write panel bug seems to be in the database. It reared its ugly head once the database was restored. Hmm. Does anyone have another ideas, or is there any way this can be escalated? Thanks.
I’ve just tested the page in Firefox, and it loads fine. So it seems the problem is with IE.
