Updating Plugins causes site to enter "Maintenance Mode"

    I’ve developed my WordPress themes from scratch. And now when I’m updating my plugins, the process gets stuck on Step 1/3 and my site goes into maintenance mode. I have to keep deleting the .maintenance file from my root wp folder.

    How can I fix this?
