I know this has been asked before, but none of the answers I’ve found are doing what I need it to do. I *know* how to do this – I’ve done it before – but for the life of me I can’t remember how I did it. The codex is down (been trying to look up the file in “The Loop” for an hour now – all I get on *any* codex page is a blank white screen) -otherwise I’d just refresh my memory that way.

I know you can exclude a category from displaying posts on the main page (but all pther categories will display) but using a query_posts deal – but I cannot remember the correct syntax. I’ve been messing with it for a while, but I must be having a huge brainfart.

Can anyone elighten me on the correct syntax for this? Or do I need to wait for the codex to come back on (hopefully soon!)?

EDIT: oo..something new finally! Now instead of ablank page, I’m getting a 500 internal server error. Must mean *someone’s* already working on it!

  • I always found this plugin to be the easiest way for cat exclusion:

Thanks moshu 🙂 I *did* see that on another post (and I believe you were the one who posted it! 🙂 ) but she’s trying to avoid using too many plugins (it’s for a friend of mine’s blog). Why? I dunno. I have that as an option, but I was pretty sure you could do it just by using a query post thing. If I must, though, I’ll make her use the plugin!

haha – wouldn’t you know it. As soon as I made that last post, the codex came back. I should have known – guess I’m impatient!

    Anyway, it’s here:

    Exclude Posts

Now I must go write on the chalkboard 100 times: “Patience is a virtue.” 😉

This plugin is not well maintained for new releases of WP:

I am getting up to speed on workarounds in WP but I think WP would be a much better paltform if this feature were incorporated more easily (especially for novices!)
