Is it easier to just have two installs of WP instead of multisite

Hello,

I have installed WP and am slowly building a new site for someone. I do want a test site though that I can learn more about WP. I am pretty new to all this I just really need one more site that I can really delve into how WP works and I don’t want to use the install I have since that will be a live site soon.

Is it better to do Multi-site? I am also somewhat confused on domains. If I do multisite and put the test site under the domain I am currently using as a subdomain will that cause issues.

Sorry for the silly question. I am reading through the forums and am a bit confused.
