Options – Writing. Scroll down and enter it there.
Options – Writing only sets the default for posting by e-mail.
If you set the default category using what I said above, and you also use the advanced edit screen for your posts, then setting the default works.
If you use the ‘simple controls’ then no, it does not.

Yup – I posted here ages ago about it…. and promptly forgot 🙂
Or if you don’t have a lot of posts that you would need to reclassify (and it appears you only have two), you can always just edit the General category and change the name to something else, which would then be the default. Then if you still want a general category, you could add a new one.
