• I’m one of the many victims of the move to beta blogger and being unable to import my blog over to wordpress.

However, with some research, I’ve found that you can import the posts using the RSS feed import option. Here’s what I did to import my blog. The comments have to be added manually (a PITA, but doable).

First, you need IE7. Go to http://www.microsoft.com and download it if you don’t have it.

Next, use IE7 to visit your blog. You will see the feed button on the toolbar and see the options for Atom and RSS. Choose RSS. This will show you your blog in RSS feed. You will see something like this:

    http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Now, what you need to do is add to the end of that string &max-results=100

If you believe you have more than 100 posts, use that number instead.

    It will look like this:

    http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss&max-results=100

Once that displays, click on File, Save As and give the file a name.

Go into WordPress admin menu and choose Import, then RSS. It will ask for the address or filename. Browse to where you saved your exported posts and choose the file.

It’ll take a minute, but it will import all of your posts.

Many thanks to PurpleMoggy for his assistance with this. He blog entry: http://purplemoggy.blogspot.com/2006/09/blogger-beta-feeds.html
was the impetus for this and he was kind enough to respond to a question on how to retrieve all my posts (max-results) and the rss feed in one command. Many thanks.

You can view your comments (and save/import them) the same way; however, I don’t believe they will import correct – they’ll import like posts. You can use this process to view all your posts so you can see what you’re up against. It also makes it easier to copy/paste when they’re all together. Just use this command (from Purplemoggy’s post):

    http://beta.blogger.com/feeds/YOURBLOGID/comments/TYPE

    Find you blogid here (http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42191)

TYPE would probably be the word full, so it will show all your comments (versus short or none).
