I’m trying to install WordPress on Awardspace.

I’ve done everything except install the software; I can reach the install page at http://mysubdomainname.awardspace.com/wp-admin/install.php but it shows up as an error page:

I’m positive that I have the username and password right. I set my hostname to “fdb1.awardspace.com,” which the database name I found…

Am I doing anything wrong? Is the database just down?

I’m not exactly sure. I’m think either the host is down (which I know I can’t fix) or I entered the hostname wrong.

In the “Manage Database” section of the Awardspace control panel, it gives the hostname as “fdb1.awardspace.com.” In the other thread regarding this host, it says that the HOST value should be “db1.awardspace.com.” I’ve tried both, and neither has worked.

Is there anything else I could be doing wrong? I’m sure the username and password are correct.

This is the real URL of the install error: http://halcyonwindt.awardspace.com/wp-admin/install.php

    Thanks, guys.

Awardspace allows you to use phpMyAdmin to access your database. Can you use your login and password (which you have in your wp-config.php file) to access the database?

If I remember correctly, the database name (DB_NAME) and the user name (DB_USER) are the same.

Once in phpMyAdmin you should also see the database server at the top of the screen.

    Just following up here:

Found on a recent install that even though the awardspace Website Manager, Database Manager said the Db Host was “fdb1.awardspace.com” the actual database host was “db4.awardspace.com”.

That information was gleaned from the the information presented under the Welcome to phpMyAdmin heading where it displayed:
    MySQL 4.1.18-log running on db4.awardspace.com as xxxx @ 100.10.1.00

So again, it may be necessary to use phpMyAdmin and login with the database user and password to find the “true” database host.

Thanks, MichaelH. I tried “db4.awardspace.com” and it worked.

I have a feeling that it was just the site having server problems. Whatever; I don’t care so long as it works.

Just installed 2.0.5 on an awardspace.com account and just as halcyonwind experienced, the DB Host displayed as fdb1.awardspace.com. But, unlike before, it displayed that same value, fdb1.awardspace.com, on the top line in phpMyAdmin, and of course, fdb1.awardspace.com worked as the DB_HOST in the wp-config.php file.

Go figure–maybe something changed at awardspace where they are now displaying the correct database in the Database Manager screen.

Yep I just installed on awardspace too, and yes it’s telling me two different sql servers. I tried both and got nowhere.

It turned out that a port number was also required! I found it at http://www.awardspace.com/web_hosting_faq.html

Anyway the port is 3306 (and it did work), as it’s in the public help section it seems to be for all users.
