Moving A WordPress Blog

I know this has been discussed before and I’ve done some searching and can’t exactly find what I need and I’m in a time crunch to help a friend today.

What I want to do is move his existing wp blog content and comments from his name.wordpress.com blog over to his own domain name. I did find this link but it doesn’t completely answer my question.

I do know how to do a fresh install of WordPress but now that I have an export of his content via the wordpress.com export feature, how do I get it into his new site/domain with out breaking things?

At this point I haven’t done the WP install yet because I don’t want to do double duty and if I need to fix something, I only want to do it once.

To summarize, I want to take wp content from a wordpress.com hosted blog and move it to a stand alone install of word press on a different domain.
