Post editor colorizing?

I dislike the rich editor in WordPress and never use it. I like seeing the html having that control and cleanliness.

One thing that I’d really like to see is color syntax highlighting in the editor, much like Vim or other code editors can do. I’m talking exclusively about highlighting code in the editor, not in a final post for public display that may contain code snippets.

I’m not seeing any plugins that easily accomplish this. Has anyone done this or found a way? I’d love any info. When I’m writing a post with many links or images, my brain starts to fry trying to make sense of where code ends and text begins.
