Help needed with title tag and page numbers please

Hi folks,

My home page shows posts from the blog category. There are 40 posts in this category, with 5 shown on each page, therefore a total of 8 pages. I am using the wp_page_numbers plugin to control the navigation for this and it clearly shows a total of 8 pages. However, when i click on say page three for example, the title tag now shows page 3 of 439! I do not have 439 pages of posts so why is it showing this? If you enter page 201 for example in the domain bar you do not receive an expected 404 either. What would be causing this problem?
