  • Hey everyone! I need some help

Yesterday I was on the phone with dodaddy canceling one of my hosting account and merging all my domains to the delux plan I have when all hell broke loose at Godaddy. Their website went down and the support could not help me any more. Today I tried getting help but they just did not understand what I was trying to do.

I had a website on a different hosting account with them. I downloaded all of the files through FTP locally and changed the Domain to my new hosting account. I uploaded all of the website files to the directory when my domain is pointing to but my website is not working.

My domain is anappthatsmine.com Error establishing a database connection

Godaddy deleted my previous database and hosting account. What do i need to do?

Do you have a database backup from the old site?

No I backed it up through godaddy on my other hosting account. It is now expired.

Well I take that back. I used a plugin a a couple weeks ago. I have a folder in my root that has wp-backups and inside the zip I do see a database.sql

What version of WordPress were you running on the old site?

I just updated in I think the 3.4.somthing on sept 6thish.

3.4.2? If so, you could just install WordPress and then restore your database backup file into the new database post-install.

Ok so just set up a new wordpress then restore the database and upload all my wordpress files into that folder?

The only files/folders that you should need to upload will be the wp-content folder & its contents. That contains all of your plugins, themes & uploads. Before you restore the old backup, you may have to make some changes in the database if you are using a different domain name or url. See Moving_WordPress for the details.

I dont see anywhere in Godaddy database where I can restore a backup locally. All I seee is the option to restore from their backups. They do not have a backup of my database.

Contact GoDaddy & ask them for access to Phpmyadmin or a similar database management application.

About 10 mins ago I was on the phone with godaddy. He told me to set up a new wordpress and then copy the wp-contents and it should go bac to normal and the database does not matter. By setting up a new one it will do the same. For some reason i dont think that is correct. I have to have my old database right?

Im so sorry esmi. Thank you for the help. Im in panic mode. I really dont want to lose my content and everything. It look like its coming back to life. I just installed wordpress and now Im copying the contents. I logged in the dashboard and now i can see the plugins but my front end website has not changed. still got 500 files left though

Yes. He was talking rubbish. Try asking to speak to someone with some experience of WordPress or to second line/tier support. I’ve also tagged this topic for Godaddy as 1 or 2 or their more knowledgeable staff do browse the forums every now and then.
