It is likely that the upgrade process failed somehow. You might want to reupload manually the files.
Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

mauricius doesn’t have a problem. If you are locked out of your dashboard after an attempted upgrade, try:
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
– running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
I have uploaded wordpress manually to my server and extracted the contents (except wp-content), but it also keeps telling me that i am in maintenance mode. Can this be a cause for the dashboard not being available?

Yes. Try deleting the .maintenance file in the root folder.
Have you turned on a maintenance mode plugin? Maybe change the name of the folder in wp-content/plugins to enforce plugin deactivation.
I turned off all the plugins, but didn´t worked. The maintenance mode did disappeared, but still didn´t worked.
Ok, problem solved. I uploaded again version 3.4.2 and extracted it in the root directory using ftp, and it is all working perfectly, including the plugins. Most likely something went wrong during the update in the WP dashboard

Same here. By auto update FAIL By manual update FAIL. By removed all plugins FAIL.
Is this a godaddy problem?
i have no dashboard access either.
Dashboard also vanished for me with the upgrade. I rolled back server files to the earlier version.
