Exclude Category from index.php?

Anyone know how to exclude a specific category from the main page of articles? I’d like to password protect posts in a specific category but don’t want those articles to even show up. Instead, I’ll be linking to password protected articles through the tab bar at the top of my site, HAINSWORTH.COM, just like the Pages tabs.
