Support » Fixing WordPress » Uploads folder copied to new WP installation, No media attachments found problem

  • I have tried to use a new installation for my wordpress site. I did the following:
    1) Export all the posts from the old installation.
    2) Import the xml to the new installation.
    3) Copied uploads folder and placed it in the new installation drive.

The images are appearing on the posts while the thumbnails have vanished. :/ Even the media library now shows “No media attached”.

How can I solve this problem? Please help.

    Regards

  • At step 1, did you also export all attachments?

No.. I had just exported the posts since I had more than 3k images.

Then you’d need to re-upload all of your images via WordPress. You can’t just copy the uploads folder across as this doesn’t register each image in the site’s database.

oh.. :/ There are 491 posts in the website. If I upload the images through the wordpress now, how will I attach them to the posts?

Isn’t there any plugin to show the images in the posts in the media library?

how will I attach them to the posts?

Manually – one post at a time, I’m afraid. That’s why an export with image attachments would have been much better.

Isn’t there any plugin to show the images in the posts in the media library?

You could have a look at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-from-server/ but you’ll still need to re-insert the images as all of the attachment ids will have changed.

If I can generate only the thumbnails now then I would not care seeing the files in the media library list. Is it possible to generate thumbnails now?

I tried using “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugins but it failed as WP couldn’t recognize the image files.

Is it possible to generate thumbnails now?

No. You have to register each image in the site’s database – which really mean uploading it again.
