What is the better solution?

    There really is no “better” solution here. Just the one that works best for you.

    I don’t know offhand of any syndication tools that work with SSI, so I can’t suggest anything there. If you converted your ‘home’ page to PHP it would be rather easy to pull posts into it. Of course, just setting up WordPress in a subdirectory and pointing to it off your front splash page would be even simpler.
