  • Hi nchiari – thanks for the report! That sounds bad, but obviously it’s tough without more specifics. I’ll certainly look into it.

Is this problem new since the last update?

Also, do you remember if there was anything different in the workflow of these posts (e.g. some were saved as drafts and others published right away)?

Hey David! Yes, the problem came with the last update.

I did some testing, I published articles in three different ways to test where’s the problem. These are the results:

Write an article and publish it immediatly: OK
Write an article, save as draft and then publish it: OK
Write an article and schedule it to publish later: NOT WORKING!

So it’s seems that the problem is in the scheduled articles, those don’t create a topic in the forums!

    Hi nchiari,

Thanks for digging into this a bit more!

I’ve posted a fix in the development version. This also fixes creating topics from posts published using the “Quick Edit” link.

David, that seems to solve the issue, but the dev. version came with something worst… the scheduled posts doesn’t works anymore. I schedule a post to be published at certain hour, but the post doesn’t publish automatically, and when I go to the editor to see what happened, there’s a sign saying that the schedule was lost. But when I entered to the post edition, it published itself automatically. Strange…

I’m going to downgrade to v1.2 until you can look into this issue, because that is the version that worked fine for me

    Thanks as usual David!

Hi David, did you have the time to look at this issue? The version I’m currently using (1.2) is not making new topics for scheduled articles either, so I whope you can solve the problem as soon as possible!

    Thanks for everything!

David, any news about this? Sorry to bother you but I’m really worried about the issue, my whole site depends on your plugin! hahaha

    Hi nchiari,

Sorry I’ve been away! This past week was super busy. Are you using a plugin for scheduling posts, or just setting the date in the future?

I cannot reproduce the scheduling problem with the development version of this plugin, but I’ve only tested setting a future date in the post editor.

    (@nchiari)

Np Dan! I’m using the post setting future dates on the editor only. I’ll try to reproduce the error by myself.

I’m having a possibly similar problem with the Pages created by the Events Manager plugin. I can select the bbPress options, but if I update an event, or select them directly when creating a new event, after it’s updated, the check box and all bbPress settings are unmarked again; also no topic is created in the forum I selected. I wonder if the fact that the events also have future dates might be the reason.

    WP version: 3.4.2
    Events Manager version: 5.2.5
    bbPress Topics version: 1.4

    Hi, AuSchakal –

I’m guessing that Events Manager pages are a custom post type, so this plugin won’t create topics for them by default.

If so, you can write a function to hook the bbppt_eligible_post_types filter and modify the array it receives to add support for new post types. There will eventually by a UI for this, but that’s the best way to handle it for now.

Hi Dan! I’m here again. I’m going to reinstall the DEV version of your plugin to see what happens.

I’ll be back with the updates.

    Thanks for everything!

PS: do you know any plugin to suscribe to comments from the editor screen, so when the authors are about to publish the article they can suscribe to receive mail notification when someone comments?

    Hi nchiari,

Thanks for giving it another shot! Please let me know what you find.

I don’t know of a plugin like that, and couldn’t find one in a quick search. Sorry!

    Hi nchiari,

There’s a new development version that includes some debug hooks that may be helpful in troubleshooting this issue. There have also been some changes made to the process of creating a new topic, so that may have resolved the problem. Please keep me posted on your site and any problems you encounter with this plugin.

    Thanks!

    – David

I have another variation / instance of this problem. If I post by selecting new from WP, everything’s fine.

However, my current post was written in Win Live Writer, saved from there as a draft and then published from WP and the post refuses to save the reference to the forum topic — meaning a new topic is created every time the post is edited!

    The offending post is here:

    Hi justinroffmarsh –

Thanks for reporting this! I haven’t tried a third party editor when creating the post initially, so this is an interesting case. I’ll check on it and see what I can do.

Can you tell me what you have set as defaults for creating topics?

    – David
