• Last year, I signed up for a site on wordpress.com.
The site name goes to: myfullname.worpress.com

I never made an entry. The site exists. Probably part of filling out the form.

Now, I am interested in buckling down and creating a self-hosted site.
Going through the tutorial on lynda.com. It’s great.

I’ve created ftp and mysql accounts through bluehost.
I’ve signed up with bluehost with new web address name: myfullname.com

    I’ve downloaded the latest wordpress.
    I’m using ClassicFTP
I’m on a Intel Core 2 Duo iMac using OS 10.7.4

I’m following the Lynda.com tutorial for self-hosted sites.

I uploaded wordpress to the ftp site.
Using my browser (having cleared the cache and cookies), I go to myfullname.com and it takes me to myfullname.wordpress.com

    I can’t understand this.
    Please help.

I imagine I’ll get responses telling me I have to go through the motions to transfer my blog- and I’ve read through the directions and followed them, BUT

There is only the one landing page of the myfullname.wordpress.com
    With no content to transfer.

how do i get to myfullname.com to set up my new site?

Problems arise when I try to get to my new site

  • You make no mention of changing the Name Servers for “myfullname.com”, which is done on the site where you registered the domain name, not where you want to host it.

Once you’ve done that, it can take up to 72 hours for them to take effect worldwide. Often it takes 12 hours before you can see the change yourself.

If you want more help, you are going to have to tell us what your domain name is.

thanks for taking the time to respond.
i see that Automattic has registered “myfullname.com” last year.

I will try to figure this out.

I’m curious as to why would blue host let me register “myfullname.com”
    as well.

    Hmmmm….

I think that this will help you change the name servers so they point at BlueHost:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/

As for BlueHost, I suspect they were merely asking you what domain name you wanted to host, rather than offering to register the domain name for you. They could have been offering to transfer registration from Automattic to BlueHost.

Why did you install WordPress manually when Bluehost offer simple scripts and one click installation?
