I want to use the facebook plugin for my student society. We also have a facebook pages account. I would like to connect the facebook pages account to the wordpress site with the plugin. But somehow facebook requires that I use a personal account..I it’s not clear to me how the publication mechanism works, it should not be possible that the website can post messages to my personal account. Also when I stop someone else has to take over which is really unhandy as the account is coupled to my personal account..I tried to make a generic account “student society member” but that was illegal with facebooks terms..

How can I separate my personal account from the website?

  • Sorry, not an answer, but I think I have the same problem. I just installed the Facebook plugin. It looks cool, but the subscribe button prompts people to subscribe to my personal Facebook page, not my company page. Any advice on how to change this would be greatly appreciated.

This is not changeable, all Facebook integrations of any sort must be handled through a personal account. Not just any personal account, but an account that has been verified to be a real person either via SMS text message to a phone or via a credit card verification check (it’s free-of-charge, they just verify the card exists and works).

Facebook “Applications” are the integration points for Facebook to talk to external sites. Apps can only be owned by real people. More than one person can be an administrator of the Application, but there must be at least one personal account.

And yes, it will have the ability to post to your wall too, but you don’t have to turn that on if you don’t want to do so.

This is to prevent spam and fraud and all sorts of other things. If you’re integrating with Facebook, you have to do it as you or some other real, verified, person. You cannot do it anonymously.
