  • Can you check your mail logs? Within the last few weeks a number of hosts seem to have restricted email sending and the timing on your issue may in fact be coincidental.

I try but i don’t find where can i see mail logs ?
An other thing i’v realized is that in the WP-security logs, i find 55404 errors but it’s absolutely stupefying because i find some entries corresponding to an very older blog i had, it’s impossible, my blog is fresh and it’s on a new domain, new hoster, new database, i’m flabbergasted ^^
    Best.

same on my site. backups are not working

I have just installed this great plugin to 3 seperate wordpress sites, 2 work perfectly but on one of them the manual backup function just returns a blank screen, I have checked the permissions on the backup directory and they are identical to the 2 sites that work.
I have uninstalled the plugin and re-installed to no avail as well.

    Same problem as bradcoll…

Similar problem. I receive an e-mail but without any attachment.

I would be willing to bet your hosts are restricting the attachments in all your cases. I’ve found a LOT of hosts are restricting zip attachments as of late and I will soon be working on a dropbox upload solution as an alternative to email.

the problem is not only with the email. better security does not create local backups. the folder backups in better security is empty. but the plugin says

“Please note that for security backups are not available for direct download. You will need to go to

    /…../plugins/better-wp-security/backups

via FTP or SSH to download the files. This is because there is too much sensative information in the backup files and you do not want anyone just stumbling upon them.”

    but the folder is empty

I had the same problem as a number of the people in this thread.

I managed to solve the issue by manually (via FTP) adjusting the CHMOD of the /…../plugins/better-wp-security/backups folder to 777.
773 worked as well, but then the plugin started generating numerous warnings and notices.

Suggestion: it would be very useful if the backup action of the plugin would check that the backup folder is writable before starting the backup, if not, try to change the CHMOD and if that doesn’t work, notify the user/admin of the site what they need to do, i.e. change the CHMOD of the folder.

@jrf: thxs for the info 🙂

I’m having the exact same problem. I’ve checked the CHMOD and it’s as it should be, so that’s not the problem for me. I’ve renamed the wp-content and plugins folder (all my other plugins are working fine despite this) and to all intents wp better security seems to be too – with the exception of being able to backup.

I lost my site data so i want to retrive my data through wp-security generated backup, how can i do it
    plz hurry up
