I just got a new dedicated and moved one of my sites...
The problem?
The homepage of the blog is ultra slow. Sometimes it just time out while loading. Internal posts are ok. Other blog on the same domain loads fine.

What can be the problem?
Ok. I have tried using the default wordpress theme on these two subdomains. They are still resulting in the same situation. I have optimized the database in phpmyadmin. So, it should not be a 'bad theme' issue. I know, the template is web -2.0 and pretty messed up.
It really does not make any sense that 2 of the 6 blogs on the server have loading problem on their homepages. inner pages are loading fine!
i tried rebooting the server. no use. it really is frustrating. default template does not help at all!
Anything in the web server's error logs?
Do you have a "tragically complex" complicated .htaccess file?
I'll agree, it IS very very odd.
the only thing common in these two blogs is that they have 3000-4000 posts. other blogs loading fine have around 1000 posts.
i have seen bigger wordpress blogs with no problems. can this be a size issue? i tried moving the tables from a common database to a fresh database for the news blog. it seems to have improved things just by a margin.
what kind of logs should i check to see problems?
the basic fact remains, only the homepage of the blog is slow. inner pages load fine. amazing!
my htaccess file is the newer version which was introduced in recent 2.x versions. i did upgraded to latest 2.0.4 version just to see if that could help. no use ;)
I'd start with a look at the apache logs - both access and error logs. See if a visit to the home page generates either excess[1] in the access log or anything in the error log.
I sure wouldn't expect 3-4k posts to be an issue unless you lost all your table indexes when you moved...

found the problem finally. one of the plugins was slowing down the homepage. once again gamerz came to the rescue.
