    No, although it could make since to modify it to do that if you need to look in custom post type categories. It probably wouldn’t be too difficult to query for the most recent posts in a category that the current post is in, although then you run into the issue of multiple categories…

    You might be able to do it with this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/related-posts-by-category/, or by using some of its guts in a customized widget. The tricky part is that you would need to call it in the loop and send it to the sidebar…
