if google could see the password … anyone could see it also .
if it’s .php extention and php was running they will not be able to see the code source .
the only way that someone could take the pass is that you put your file in plain text in a place where all people can access it and this would be a stupid thing to do ..

So does this mean that this Google thing would not be able to search WP database backups created by the backup plugin and kept in the backup folder in wp-contents?

I don’t want to be alarmist I am just trying to understand the significance of it all.
Apparently vBulletin are also warning their users:
“It has come to our attention that Google’s new ‘Code Search’ system has been finding a number of vBulletin zip files uploaded on various customers’ sites and publishing the script contents, including sensitive data such as customer and license numbers.
Please, do not leave your vBulletin zip/tar.gz files or site backups in a web-accessible location!
If you do not ensure that your vBulletin zips are protected, not only are you leaking your own personal data, but you will also be in violation of the vBulletin license agreement by allowing your copy of the software to be downloaded by unauthorized parties.”
This topic has been covered many times already.
Just don’t store any backups of your site publicly. You shouldn’t have been doing that in the first place anyway. Then again, what’s not linked to can’t be found by a search engine.

the sql generated will not contain any password … the wp-config.php is not included in the backup process .
what is available is the encrypted password for the users …
good luck decrypting it 🙂
i just made a backup and tested it .
MD5 is not 100% secure, but it’s good enough, especially if you don’t use like “apple” for a password.

You’re right, Viperoo7bond, and I apologise for wasting people’s time. For once I didn’t search first (to be honest the search function on this forum is the worst thing about the whole of WordPress 🙂 )
Also to be more sure , you could search google code to see what is availble from your site , search and see what people can find in your site 😉
