Settings -> Domain Mapping Does Nothing?

    I am trying to install multiple multisite domains (i.e. site-a.com, site-b.com, site-c.com) and I have installed WP3.41 many times using the recommended steps in codex and wp-admin/network/setup.php, then installing the current wordpress-mu-domain-mapping plugin with sunrise.php moved as instructed… But when I try to add new domains at Settings -> Domain Mapping nothing happens. No domains show up on the list. Nothing happens when the screen refreshes after adding a domain. When I use the admin bar to add new domains it only lets me add subdomains of the primary domain which I then edit/change to the actual domain (site-a.com, site-b.com, etc) and those domains show up and work, but won’t let me login. Anybody got any ideas? I’ve been doing this for around 8 hours now ;o)

    p.s. am using Hostgator running Apache / CentOS / Cpanel … All domains merely set to use /public_html/ as their root documents directory so should not be a problem there…

    Don’t edit the names in the Site Edit pages, that’s a bad idea.

    There are two Domain Mapping pages.

    1) Domain Mapping – This is where you set up your server. Put in the Server IP Address, set your options.
    2) Domains – This is where you enter your domains.

    Did you do step 2?

    Aloha Mika. I have 2 domains, domain.net and domain.com… domain.net is the original wp install domain… I have it to step 2 where I can enter domains. domain.net does not show up on the domains list… i then add domain.com as sideid=2… I can add all the domains I want, but none show up on the Network Admin bar and when I go to the site they all look like and domain.net… If I login at the mapped domains they go back to the original domain.net and I see no way to login or in any way modify/manage the mapped domains. I am obviously missing some crucial step in this process muahaha… Your kind assistance is greatly appreciated ;o)

    domains: electricdesk.net and electricdesk.com

    Yeah, you’re missing something 🙂

    There are TWO menu links, Domain Mapping and Domains.

    Once you’ve set up Domain Mapping, you have to go to Domains. That’s where you go to manage the domains: http://cl.ly/image/1g3k1u2u013T

    Yes, I know… that’s how I added electricdesk.com after creating the wp install on electricdesk.net … but as I said above, there is no way to DO ANYTHING with electricdesk.com besides add it to the list… there is no way to login, add posts, change themes, etc… it’s just electricdesk.com showing the .net version and i can’t do anything with it… :o)

    As stated above, I set the siteid for electricdesk.com = 2, thinking it needs a unique id. the problem is i have found no documentation explaining why an id even needs to be set, not how to go from what you called step 2 near the top of this thread. Is there a doc I haven’t found that explains how to do this? I have read:

    It doesn’t need a ‘unique’ ID, it needs the right ID 🙂

    OK I finally get it ;o) … Now, is there a way to keep the logins on the various domains TLD’s rather than always going back to subdomain.maindomain.tld that is the primary site???

    Go back to the Domain Mapping page – /wp-admin/network/settings.php?page=dm_admin_page

    Check the following boxes only: 2

    Yeah, just 2.

    You can check 3 if you want the subsites to be able to map themselves.

    YAY!!! THANK YOU MIKA!!! SUCCESS!!! 17 DOMAINS RUNNING!!! NOW TO ADD SOME PLUGINS AND SEE HOW LONG IT TAKES ME TO BREAK IT MUAHAHAHA… ONE LAST QUESTION… WHAT BACKUP PLUGIN DO YOU USE CUZ I WANNA USE THAT ONE ;O)

    I actually use a backup tool running on my server (cPanel has it’s own) because WP isn’t the only webapp on my accounts. Every night, I get a full server backup – email, SQL, files – the whole 10 yards.

    If you’re JUST using WP, the backup options for Multisite are a little limited/expensive.

    Check with your host and see what kind of backups they have first.

    Thanks Mika. I have waaaaay too many inodes on my account for my hosting company to back me up, but I “r a programur” and will figure the backup issue out ;o) … Original issue happily resolved and this week I turn my sites on buddypress LOL… Aloha from Maui!
