I used to have an upload link on my menu...I can't find it anywhere. What happened to it? Since upgrading to the latest, it's gone.

Look on the Write Posts screen, just below the post editor.
And to stall of the next question: After you've uploaded an image, click on it. A little menu will pop up with things you can do or set. Each line in the menu is a "toggle". Experiment a bit and you'll see how it works pretty quickly.
