[Plugin: Facebook] Doesn't publish to the newsfeed as a status update?

When I check “publish to author’s timeline” it seems to only publish a link under my “recent activity.” Is that right? It’s very easy to miss and does not seem to actually publish ON my timeline or show up in friend’ newsfeeds like a status update does. So it seems mostly useless in that no one notices my post. I usually get likes and comments but using this methos it appears that people won’t see the post unless they go to my timeline and look under “recent activity.” My last post, none of my friends saw it. Is this the intended functionality? I have not yet found a way to change this.
