    WordPress version:3.4.1
    Better WP security version:3.4.1

First of all, thanks for the developer (Chris Wiegman) for this great plugin…,

    in short :

I did this: Changed the user ID 1

I expected the plugin to do this: Run smoothly as it used to be.

It did this: The plugin plays well as expected, except one thing, it causing my gravatar no longer shows on my own blog. Reversing back the user ID (value) to 1 via phpMyadmin seem do the trick to get my gravatar showed up, But by doing this trial it caused me unable to login to my wp dashboard.

    my site : http://sulistyo.web.id/

Any help dealing with this issue will be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks, Sulistyo

  • Same problem here. I deactivated and deleted the plugin, which didn’t solve the issue. But I found the solution.

Go to your cPanel and find Back & Restore feature. Choose Restore MySQL databases and there choose restoring the database called _users to the pre-plugin-installation version. Do not restore other databases as this would affect post, comments, media.

This brought me back my Gravatar!

    To the plugin author:

    You should seriously consider both
    – adding undo feature to all items in the plugin (including “users”), AND
    – adding this info in boldface to the user-changing feature “This will stop your gravatar from showing and is not recommended unless you are familiar with restoring MySQL databases“.

@samaralife, Thanks for information,. i’m not sure that there’s Back & Restore feature on my cPanel. I’ll find it out. I absolutely agree about “adding boldface” idea dealing with this changing user ID feature since doing things related to Sql, database and phpmyadmin is a scary things and in fact it could mess up our site badly when we get lost while doing it.

I meant Backup&Restore. I have it in BlueHost’s cPanel. I am sure you have it somewhere and it is pretty automatic. Just choose restoring the _users database to some older date, leaving all other databases untouched.

Although if you keep the plugin activated (and even installed) I cannot guarantee that the restore would work. I don’t know how the plugin interacts with the database. So I decided to live without the plugin, however good it is in all other respects.

thanks, its seem to be a different what i have on my cPanel, I have only a called “Backup” feature (what i’ve got inside this feature: backup means i download the backup files, restore means i have to upload my restoration files). Btw, you’re right deactivating and even uninstalling the plugin doesn’t solve the problem dealing with user ID 1.

Thanks for the gravatar update. I will look into and fix the issue. In the meantime, try resaving your user profile. If that doesn’t work email me at info [at] bit51 [dot] com we can work on trying to get your gravatar back.

As for the undo feature. Unfortunately it isn’t that simple for some features. Namely, if a major database change crashes the first time I’m not going to let it try it twice. This is one of the main reasons I tell folks they must make a database backup before changing anything.

@bit51, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to maintain this thread. Hope there’s still a plenty of time of your to get this gravatar issue fixed. Thanks for the great plugin…

    Hi

    Same problem with Gravatar

@bit51 Thank you for paying attention to the bug and for your good work.
As for me, I uninstalled the plugin, deleted it and restored the necessary database, so my problem was solved in a way. ))

OK folks, Working on the Gravatar issue this weekend. Can any of you please confirm if you are using any caching, particularly opcode or db query caching?

I didn’t use any caching plugin. So no caching unless it is provided by the hoster without my knowing about it.

OK. Thanks. Just trying to track down where the gravatar might have gotten lost πŸ˜‰

For those of you who have already changed user id 1 I can provide you with a query that will restore your gravatar to existing comments (I’m afraid this is the only way to fix it). You must be comfortable with MySQL however. I have put a patch in the development version (to be released shortly) that will prevent this problem from happening to future users. Thank you for the report.

    @bit51, Thanks,
I’ll be glad to see and try your query. I’m waiting for it…
