I have just added a contact form to my website. I have 3 required fields: name, email, and comment. In the name and email fields, the site includes default grayed out text. The text currently included is my information, which I don’t want to leave there.

How can I either remove or edit the text displayed automatically in these fields?

Additionally, the same issue affects the box where readers can subscribe to the blog via email – there is (my) default information, which I would like to edit/remove.

I tried running a search for this topic but couldn’t find it previously addressed. Thanks for your help.

  • Hi auoconnell,

I don’t recall the Twentyeleven theme having a built in contact form. It sounds like you may be using a plugin. Is that the case? If so, what is the name of it?

    Hey,

The only plugins I have are Akismet and JetPack by WP. It looks like the content form is a feature of the JetPack. I can insert a customized form to any page in the theme.

I’m afraid that I may not be that much help as I don’t have much experience with the contact form in JetPack. I do use JetPack and it strikes me that another contact form plugin may be more customizable. I have used http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/contact-form-7/

I hope this helps in some way.

Thanks jrelgin, the contact form you recommended works great.

Now I just have to figure out how to remove the default text from my “subscribe” feature!

The default text that appears in the Jetpack contact form is due to your being logged-in to your WordPress admin. Either logout or view the webpage using Incognito mode (if your browser supports that) and the default form text should go away.

Thanks Adam, you were right. When I’m not logged in, the default text isn’t visible.

    Easy-peasy!
