Pinging Problems (3 posts)

I don't think my blog is pinging. Here is why:

    - When I publish a post, I don't see an update at services such as Technorati even after a day of waiting. However, when I manually ping from the ping-o-matic site, Technorati updates within minutes.
    - When I trackback to a blog (including one of my own - I have checked it for anything held for moderation) - I don't see an addition to the trackback listing on that blog. (I am adding the trackback link to the appropriate field on the posting page for WP.)

After I post and incorporate a trackback, I have clicked the "edit" link on my post and I see the trackback address listed as having been already pinged.

What sort of permissions or access through a provider's firewall does pinging require, and would WP still show a ping as having taken place even if it were blocked by the provider? My hosting is through Aplus.

    Under update services add

    http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
    http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping

First pings pingomatic, the second technorati directly

Thank you. However, update services still has "http://rpc.pingomatic.com/" listed from the default installation and I don't know why trackbacks are not working. I think it might be my hosting service, but I don't know exactly what to ask them without knowing how WP performs a ping. I did find a mention of port 80 being required for pings and trackbacks by users of Moveable Type, but I don't know if this, or some similar aspect, may apply to WordPress.
