I have a similar question. I would like to password protect individual pages of my website using your plugin. My goal is to prevent visitors from even accessing and seeing the website (for specific pages only) until the password is entered. Unfortunately the option you mention above that’s built into WordPress doesn’t restrict access to the page, it only blocks specific content (but visitors can still access the website and see the header, menu, sidebar widgets, footer, etc.).
Is this possible?
Could I add a simple addition to the code to exclude certain pages from having to enter the password. Really I will only have a few I don’t want password protected compared to basically the entire site I would like password protected.

I have a feeling there’s more to this (going on in the back end), than just setting the Page or Post to “Password Protected,” within the Publish container.

Is there more to this, example — settings need to be configured from the Dashboard? Tried all, had friend on device not in the same house test, still failed.
Cloud, did you manage to get this functioning properly? *Did it take a few minutes, or hours maybe, to initialize the changes? Just trying to think of how something may be different/entered non-default-for-this-to-work, from my end. Thanks!
@jen_dyck Just to clarify, my suggestion above is just in-built WordPress functionality. It has nothing to do with the Password Protected plugin.
I was just suggesting it as an alternative solution if you just wanted to password protect a single page.

If you protect a page using the built-in WordPress method and it isn’t working:
- Make sure you are logged out of the admin
- Try using a default WordPress theme – it should show a field to enter a password.
Thanks, @ben Huson! By setting this one page in question to the Default Template (while still using a different theme), the page is now registering with Password Protect. Thank you for responding to me, even though this thread started awhile back, I appreciate it!
Glad I found this post… I have password protected one page with the WordPress Method and it works in FF and Google Chrome… but IE10 blows right past it like it is not even there…
I’m looking for a way to allow website users to setup their own individual passwords. Is there a plugin that provides that?
