• Currently if I write an article, WP shows the entire article. I want to have a “more info” or “read more” link. Idont see that option in the WP admin section. Is it a plugin or something?

  • So, why don’t you click on the “more” button when you write the post?
    (insert it where you want to break the text)

    Many thanks for the quick response. I am afraid I dont understand you. There is a option to do this upon writing the article? I see the “Optional Excertp” text box and I put something in there and nothing. Also I found this article while searching http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/comment_excerpt#Example
    ANd I put that in the loop and the post disappears.

    I should clarify, I just want to show a few articles on the front page with an excerpt, then the user can click to go to the article.

    No, not the optional excerpt. When you’re writing the post, right above the box is a row of stuff that lets you edit – like adding in a LI tag, bold text, or making your text italic – that kind of thing. There’s a “more” button right there in that row of stuff.

    Let’s get back to the basics.
    Excerpts and the “more” button are TWO different solutions for the same problem.

    And if I say you have a “more” button above your text input area (Write Post) then it is there, believe me 🙂

    I don’t remember how does it look like in the wysiwyg animal (hover!) but in the normal editor it’s called MORE. You put the cursor where you want to break the text and click “more”. It inserts this
    <!--more-->
    Done. On your main/index page only the text before it will be displayed with a nice “more” link.

    aaaahhhhhhh….I see said the blind man. That did the trick. Thanks guys. For the record is there a plugin that automatically does this, lets say if your post goes more that 100 characters?

    In any event thanks kindly

    Wasnt disputing you, just wasnt following you at first, but between your post and doodlebee I understand. I am sorry for the questions I honestly looked for the answer prior to posting too 🙁

    Now, don’t be lazy… be happy you found the button 🙂
    No, no plugin.

    (and for the future generations: when I started to use WP first I clicked on every freaking button in my admin interface to learn what it is. And only after that I came to post here…)
