From Manage Gallery, you’ve choosen a gallery, then click on the “Sort Gallery” button next to the Bulk Action box, drag and drop your thumbs to reorder them and click “Update Sort Order” on the top of the page ?
It works fine for me with WP 3.4.1 and NextGen 1.9.3 without doing anything more than that.

Thank you for your reply lolobu, I think I didn’t explain my issue well enough. My issue isn’t the sort order of photo thumbnails in a gallery, it’s the sort order of Gallery cover photo thumbnails in an album. To see the issue:
From <b>Album</b>, choose the album from the select album dropbox and all the galleries of that album show up in the left box. you can drag and drop the galleries to appear in the album and/or their order, then click Update.
Unfortunately, that’s the part that doesn’t work, clicking update doesn’t change the order of the galleries in the album.
I am having this problem, too. I can set the order I would like the images to appear, but, they end up displaying in the decending order of their id number. Is there a way to change the image id number? If not, how to get the images to display in the sort order that I have set up?

I am using nextgen 1.9.3 (latest download).
No matter how many times I update and save my sort order, NExtgen will ONLY display in descending image ID number order.
I am using wp3.4
have you guys tried changing themes and testing it?

Yes, I’ve tried deactivating other plugins and changing to the 2011 theme…no success
I actually just found that my problem lies with the compact template. If I either use the extend template or no template at all, the sort order works fine.

Has anyone found and answer to sort GALLERIES (not images)? I have tried all the above but can’t get anything to stick.
