• Hey there! How are you? It’s my first post in WordPress community… I’ve got a question.
I need to create a WP theme but I don’t know if I need to create the CSS exactly as other themes. For example, can someone that doensn’t understand anything about WP create a CSS template with other div’s names (sidebar called as #menu, for example, and container called as #mycontent) and I apply only the PHP codes there? Does he need to create the template with the WP names (like #sidebar, #content, #page)?
Thank you, waiting for your answer

  • With the CSS there is nothing really special and you can name it whatever you want. There are a few exceptions like for formatting a gallery, menus (can be changed but harder to do) or the images with captions but pretty much everything else is open.

Most themes fallow a similar naming pattern to the themes “WordPress Default” (Kubric), TwentyTen, or TwentyEleven, just because most beginner to intermediate themers got there start off of one of those and there is a lot of similar tutorials that use a similar naming scheme.
