• I’m really new to WordPress (only 48 hours in but loving it!) and am looking for advice on the best way to add multiple images to pages.

The site is for an artist and we want to display 12 images of artwork on a page, not thumbnails. I was told the best way would be to use tables but I’m not having much joy with WP Table Reloaded. Would I better with a gallery plugin? Any recommendations?

    Many thanks

  • WordPress has a built-in gallery function.

In the edit post pane, you can click on the “add media” icon and this will open up a drag-and-drop area. You can drag those 12 images to that area and they will all be uploaded at once. Save to close the upload area.

Click on the “add media” icon again, and near the top it will say “Gallery” plus the number of images you just uploaded. You can insert them into the post by clicking on “Show” (which opens up the info for that image) and then clicking on “Insert into post”.

I think you want thumbnails. Including full-size images on a page really slows down load time and is a disincentive for readers to stick around. You can control the size of the thumbnails through Settings >> Media.

Thanks for your help, kjodle, 🙂 I confess I didn’t realise I could add a gallery that way although it doesn’t solve my problem and I think that’s possibly bad explanation on my part!

I’ve just used your method to add a test gallery to a page and it generates thumbnails as I suspected. When I said I didn’t want thumbnails what I should have said was that I want the complete image to be visible so the whole artwork can be seen rather than clicking a thumbnail to open a bigger image. What I need is something akin to this, which is his current site:

Would that require a gallery plugin?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. 🙂

You can do that. If your images are that small, just select “Full-Size” when you insert them. After you click “Show” you should see it near the bottom of the information for that particular image.

There used to be an option to “set featured image” and “insert image into post” (the body of the post.) Now all I can find is “set featured image” this would not be so bad except that the image does not show up when viewing the whole post. http://www.gazellemagazine.com/category/foodfight/
click read more you’ll see the problem. Also I would like to see the caption and add another image!

    Thanks

I am using the latest version of WP 3.5.1 Did not have this problem with 3.5.
