Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
Just discovered the same problem. Please let us know if you find a solution.

It appears to be a specific problem with my theme although the WP before 3.4.1 did not have this issue. I am using the WOO themes and I have contacted them as well. The other WOO themes do not have this problem but I did not update them thus far.
With respect to your suggestions, I do appreciate that you were kind enough to respond. However, I am not a technical person and I have been using WP because for most part it is problem free.
I read the post that you suggested even before I asked this question.
So, although I am sincerely grateful for your answer, I have absolutely no clue how to fix it or even to begin with re-uploading all files and folders from a fresh download of WP. I truly don’t know what you mean.

Hi, everyone.
I have two websites running on WP and I decided to invest in a more professional theme, so I bought one that fit my requirements from Themeforest. But before I installed this paid theme, I updated the WP to 3.4.1 (I always try to keep it updated … as most people do), expecting it to be even better than the previous version. However, when trying to upload/insert pictures from my folders/media, it just didn’t work. I couldn’t upload anything at all. This happened with both posts and pages. I contacted Themeforest and I’m waiting for their feedback.
Meanwhile, I checked my other website which I didn’t update WP and it is working smoothly, but not the new one with the updated WP. I thought it could be a problem with the theme, so I switched the theme back to the previous one that I was using and the problem persisted, meaning that the problem should not be with the theme itself, but with WP.
I just hope WP fixes this bug ASAP, but I’m stuck with this problem and I have no clue how to fix it.
If anyone has any clues for someone that is not a computer geek like myself, please let me know.

I guess I’m having the same issue. When I upload a file with media uploader, the exact copy of the original file carries after the import wrong file permissions while downsampled copies carry correct permissions.
After correction of file permissions the pictures can be loaded in full size.
of course this is just a (bad) workaround.

I had the same problem and I fixed it.
I had a custom post type and it’s icon css was the problem;
I had a <style> tag unclosed;
I suggest check your functions.php for synatax errors !

I have WP version 3.4.1 and just automatically updated to version 3.4.2 and now my jpegs do not upload – it gives me an error message 2038 for all 3 of my websites -www.witnessmyjourney.com and http://www.markhphotography.com. Even before I automatically updated to 3.4.2 when I tried to upload new jpegs it gave me error 2038
@greatphotos, please start your own thread here, posting onto a two month old post will not be your best option…
