GoDaddy now offers WP as a one-click install!

    Great news to all other GoDaddy fans – They now offer WP as one of the additional “Value Application”. (Personally, I’ve been begging them to do this for a year now – I’m so glad to see it’s finally here!)

    Alas, our GoDaddy hosting issues are gone! Here’s the scoop right from GoDaddy:

    WordPress is a semantic personal publishing platform (i.e., blog) with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It supports multiple users, categories, comments, bookmarklets, RSS syndication, several APIs, and weblogs.com ping, among other features.
    To Set up WordPress in Your Linux Hosting Account

    1. Log in to your Account Manager.
    2. Under the Hosting & Email section, select Hosting Account List.
    3. Click Open next to the hosting account you want to modify.
    4. Under the Content section of the Hosting Manager, click the Value Application icon. The Application Manager displays.
    5. Read the disclaimer and click Accept on the Value Application Disclaimer page.
    6. Click Install next to WordPress.
    7. Enter your information in the required fields.
    8. Click Install.

    I have just spoken with the GO Daddy people and they have told me that this is only available with the Linux hosting plan…so if you have the windows or if your settings aren’t specifically for PHP (which is required for wordpress) then word press won’t work!…
    just call um and switch over…no charge…

    You don’t even have to call them… You can do it from your online account, and it takes about 5 seconds. Rather than wasting the money on a long distance phone call and being on hold for 10 minutes… go to your “manage hosting” section and do it yourself.

    And this isn’t a surprise, that it’s only available with linux. Hosting WP on a windows server is not only nearly impossible, but on godaddy, it’s absolutely impossible. Depends on the hosting company, but the general rule of thumb for hosting WP on any host is to use a linux server… not a surprise there.

    So, even if I can create a MySQL database through my Godaddy premium account, I still won’t be able to host WP there?

    it depends on if your godaddy premium account is hosted on a windows server or a linux server.

    you can always host wordpress at godaddy.
    but you must be using a linux server and have a mysql database.

    it’s a simple fix – you do it under your “manage hosting accounts” – click on the domain name, on the right hand side, you choose the plan that’s got hosting on linux (either says CGI or PHP)

    no extra charges.
    just a simple, quick fix.

    Howdy All

    After hours of trying to figure out mySQL problems etc, and trying to install to a godaddy host, I was delighted to discover the one click install. All just too easy!

    The problem I have is that despite having an economy php plan with godaddy, and having gone through the one click install process – when I post my site still shows a message to say that this website is coming soon.

    Does anyone have any smart suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks.

    the easiest way is to delete index.html / index.htm from the root directory instead of specifying directoryindex in htaccess

    Thanks for that. It has not made a difference. I am wondering if I screwed things up by trying to follow the 5minute install before I started the One Click. I might just delete everything and start again!

    I have deleted everything – hoping that starting afresh would solve my problems and that I could reinstall with the one click process – the problem now is that godaddy lists wp as still being installed… I think it is time to take a break from this project for a little while!

    why not installing it by using the manual upload method ? btw your wordpress site before was located at /root/wordpress (it looks like this (www.take3eggs.com/wordpress/)

    i thought you already know about that before deleting your entire file because i’ve already visit your page before posting my previous post, and see the default godaddy index page and by using common sense im trying to use /wordpress and it works fine, i can visit your wordpress page but it seems that you already delete everything .. so i guess you’ll have to use manual method by uploading all wordpress files instead of contacting godaddy with 1 click install problem

    Thanks for your comments and your assistance. I started the manual reinstall until I realised that the godaddy ftp programme was no longer able to locate my site at all. I figured at that stage it was time to call it a night!

    I am trying to set up to other blogs and want to avoid the same problems. I am not sure if I misunderstood your comments regarding the location of the site at /root/wordpress etc. I am all new to this. Can you explain in simple terms what I need to do to fix this. The other site that I have used the one click download for is http://www.timhaire.com and it has the same ftp error. Cheers

    I went here and I do not see WordPress as an available application for step 6. Has it changed with GoDaddy?

    No it is still there. Consider contacting godaddy support at (480) 505-8877.

    ok I got it working. But now, how do I change it so that it shows up as ninamehta.com/blog instead of ninamehta.com/wordpress . Can I do this with the 1-click setup?

    I called the tech support and the only help they could offer me was “it should be in there.” They asked two advanced people in the tech support.
