Understanding Core Events and Cron

Please can someone either point me to the information or educate me regarding the following, I really want to learn.

I have several operations which are triggered with wp-cron and even though the site is visited regularly these functions are not taking place.

I installed ‘Debug Objects’ to inspect what was taking place with various aspects and I can see that cron does not appear to be what I would expect. I have posted the screen shot here

Instead of the time period reducing it increases and I have no cron job set yet it shows doing cron ‘yes’ If someone could explain the meaning of the various aspects of the screen shot I am sure that other things would start to fit in to place
