Hi all, I’m working on a site that has WP installed in the site root and have been asked to install a ‘dev’ version of the site in a /dev folder on the site. I’ve read up with multisites and it sounds like what I need, but it sounds like multisites must each go in their own subfolder (or domain, but I definately want a subfolder for what I’m doing). Is there a way to have one of the multisites at the root rather than a subdir, and then a 2nd multisite that IS in a subdir? Or can anyone recommend a different approach for this setup? Thanks for any help!

  • If you do a subdirectory install of Multisite, the home site will be in the root, with each additional site in its own virtual subdirectory. Note, though, that this virtual subdirectory doesn’t correspond to a real subdirectory; the only real directory associated with the site will be its own upload directory under wp-content/blogs.dir/<Site ID>.

Thanks forl the response, after doing some reading, it looks like I need to use the subdomain approach rather than a subdir approach since this is an already-existing site. I’m going to try that route and will post a new topic when I (inevitably) have additional questions.
