Hack for Static Front Page – Current Item

I’m using Static Front Page, the only problem with it is that it doesn’t honor the ‘current_page_item’ class when being used. Check out NYC to see. All the pages honor current_page_item except for the home link. Any ideas on how to fix this? TIA!
